The Talking Replay relates to a new and novel use of the Instant Replay invented by Tony Verna in 1963. Now in 2008---Verna introduces the Talking Replay, an innovation that will add an athlete’s pre-recorded voice on to certain Instant Replays related to him during a live telecast.
Los Angeles, CA Oct 5, 2008—This patent-pending system is intended to combine and transmit a separate audio and video feed during a live sporting event in a manner whereby the retrieved audio can be precisely played back with a yet-to-be-determined corresponding video of an Instant Replay.
Today—as we know, the Instant Replay is being delivered from an announcer’s third person point of view (as he reports what has just happened). Come Tomorrow--- a Talking Replay will be delivered from an athlete’s first person point of view (as he reports what he may have been thinking during the happenings of that Instant Replay).
Technical improvements such as super slow motion, multiple angles, electronic first down line etc. may have helped the Instant Replay to clarify itself, but these technical devices have been unable to provide the ‘sensory element’ that the Talking Replay is capable of delivering.
While no deals have been made, the innovation has brought an early instant interest from a major broadcaster. The announcement of Verna’s new invention has been timed with the September2008 release of his latest book; “ Instant Replay the day that changed sports forever.” This heartwarming, inspiring and funny story of an 'entertainment life' portrays his varied career which included creating, producing and directing historic spectaculars.
